7-Day Canada & New England Discovery, 29 April–6 May 2023

Departing from the thrilling French-Canadian city of Montréal, you’ll cruise the stunning  St Lawrence River on this memorable week’s cruise through some of the most enchanting parts of Canada and the USA. After stopping en route to explore Québec’s walled Old Town, the historic charms of Charlottetown and some quintessential seaside escapes, you’ll arrive in the fascinating Massachusetts capital Boston.

The 1,200m St Lawrence River alone is a magical place to discover, studded with more than 40 scenic lighthouses just in the Québec portion, some with small museums. This mighty waterway has a variety of scenery to admire, from centuries-old fishing villages and imposing cliffs to plateaus and wide estuaries dotted with lush islets. Once a major entry point for those exploring North America, the river now includes a 320km ‘’whale route’ where you might spot some of the 13 resident species, including blue, beluga and right whales.

Capital of Prince Edward Island, Canada’s smallest province,, Charlottetown is another highlight, with Victorian houses and buildings and fantastic parks. The Birthplace of Confederation, it’s also the gateway to Prince Edward Island National Park with its white-sand beaches and hiking and biking trails. As well as lighthouse and boat tours and lobster boat sorties learning about the lives of lobster fishermen, you can visit the iconic Green Gables Heritage Place – the home that provided inspiration for Anne of Green Gables, restored to its late-1800s state.

Similarly fascinating, the Nova Scotia provincial capital of Halifax, perched on a rocky Atlantic inlet, is a place for nautical-themed museums, bunkers and fortresses that once guarded the harbour, striking public art, funky shops and excellent pubs hosting atmospheric folk music. This is a great spot for foodies, with everything from street vendors to upscale eateries serving up gloriously fresh seafood and other regional specialties. Of particular note are the delightful fishing village of Peggy's Cove with its picture-postcard lighthouse astride a rocky outcrop, Lunenburg UNESCO World Heritage Site with its colourful UNESCO World Heritage listed Old Town, and Mahone Bay with its artists' studios and steepled churches.

Crossing into Maine, soak in the sights of the quintessential New England coastal town of Bar Harbor with its lobster eateries, homemade ice-cream shops, boat tours exploring the surrounding islands and lighthouses, and seasonal whale-spotting. Bar Harbor cruises take in the magnificent Acadia National Park with its Cadillac Mountain (the first place in the country to see the sun rise), hike, biking and horse-and-carriage rides.
