Brazil Honeymoon

The joys of a Brazilian honeymoon

For those who enjoy urban energy, Rio is a good starting point. Its grand boulevards lined with colonial architecture are ideal for strolling as you make your way to dinner at one of Brazil’s famous barbecue restaurants. In Sao Paulo, you can tour the distinct neighbourhoods of the city, such as Liberdade, which boasts a large Japanese population. This is the best spot for sushi and unusual culinary treats like melon popsicles. Spend time exploring its stellar museums, like the acclaimed Fundacao Armando Alvares Penteado (or FAAP, for short). The coastal villages of Brazil are off the beaten path, but shouldn’t be missed for their glimpse into Brazilian culture. A small town like Paraty on the Green Coast is a photographers dream with its cobblestone streets and pretty churches. It’s also home to many first class pousadas (inns). From here, you can venture out to the surrounding islands and coves, where sugar plantations and monkeys share space. Shopping is a more than a hobby in Brazil; it’s a way of life. Pick up gifts for family and friends at the local markets. Leather and gold are such good buys that you’ll be tempted to buy your spouse a gift for your anniversary next year.

Good to know….

- Brazilians are wild about football. It has won the World Cup more times than any other country.

-The statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio is considered to be one of the seven modern wonders of the world.

- The coffee culture in Brazil is strong – not surprising since it is the world’s leading producer with 127 million bags (each weighing 60 kilos) annually.
