Boston Vacations

The heart of scenic and historic New England, Boston is a fascinating city that should be on every U.S. citizen’s must-see list. Owing to its standing as one of America’s oldest cities, it’s very compact and great for walking. An ideal place to start a Boston vacation is on the Freedom Trail, a two-and-a-half-mile walking trail, marked by a red line, leading to 16 significant historic sites that tell the story of the Revolutionary War.

In addition to history, Boston abounds with culture. It’s an intellectual hub that’s home to many universities, including some of the most prestigious in the nation. The city’s performing arts and museums are renowned, and its Old World atmosphere is juxtaposed with modern, sophisticated shops, restaurants and hotels. Boston family vacations are very popular. Children delight in such attractions as the New England Aquarium, the Boston Children’s Museum and the swan boats at the Boston Public Garden (operating from April to September). For the sports fan, a Boston vacation package should ideally include a baseball game at Fenway Park, home to the city’s beloved Red Sox.

The most popular seasons to visit Boston are the summer, when the weather is warm, and autumn, when the city’s trees turn a lovely red and gold, luring many travelers to the surrounding areas to see the famed New England foliage. Boston’s coldest month is January, when the average temperature overnight is 22.1°F; the warmest month is July, when the average temperature rises to 82.2°F. Logan International Airport is 3 miles northeast of the city, accessible by bus, subway, taxi and even water transport. It’s the largest transportation center in New England.
