Fiji Vacations

Fiji consists of more than 300 islands in the South Pacific, about a third of which are inhabited. Those who embark on a Fiji vacation often feel like they’ve discovered heaven on earth, owing to the islands’ pristine environment and friendly people.

A vacation to Fiji must include watersports. Surrounded by coral reefs, Fiji is known as the soft coral capital of the world, and is a top destination for divers and snorkelers. Swimming, kayaking, surfing, horseback riding, and hiking in the volcanic mountains and lush rainforests are other popular activities. The islands also boast 12 golf courses. A Fiji island vacation wouldn’t be complete without sampling the multiethnic cuisine, including Indian, Chinese and Korean. Fijian cuisine is best known for the lovo, an underground oven of heated rocks. Lovos are often followed by a meke, an evening of traditional song and dance.

U.S. citizens traveling to Fiji require a passport that’s valid for at least six months beyond their intended departure date, and a return or onward air ticket. Entry visas are granted on arrival for stays of 4 months or less. Direct flights to Fiji are available from Los Angeles. Rental cars are available in Fiji from major companies. A valid license from the driver’s home country is required. Driving is on the left. Fiji’s tropical climate is hottest from December through February, which is also its rainy season. The temperature rarely goes above 96°F. Cyclones are possible from November to January. The official language is English. Currency is the Fijian Dollar.
