Grenada Vacations

A Grenada vacation is never bland. The “Isle of Spice,” as it’s known, boasts a flavor as distinctive as the many spices grown there. You’ll find that a vacation in Grenada combines Caribbean beauty with interesting cultural experiences.

Located in the eastern Caribbean, about 100 miles north of Venezuela, Grenada includes the island of Grenada as well as the smaller islands of Carriacou and Petit Martinique. A volcanic island, Grenada has a lush, mountainous interior, many picturesque waterfalls, as well as both white and black-sand beaches. The most famous beach, the white sand Grand Anse, stretches for two miles just south of Grenada’s capital, St. George’s. Shoppers will delight in strolling through St. George’s, home to a colorful market and many examples of colonial architecture. A Grenada travel itinerary often includes diving, as there are 20 wrecks off the coasts of Grenada and Carriacou (which means “Island of Reefs”). One-ninth of Grenada is preserved, and the pristine landscape and waters attract many boaters, hikers and fishing enthusiasts. Visitors shouldn’t miss a stop at one of Grenada’s working spice estates. About a third of the world’s supply of nutmeg is grown here, as well as mace, allspice, clove, cinnamon, ginger, bay leaves, tumeric and sapote.

Proof of citizenship bearing a photograph, or a passport, is required for U.S. citizens to enter Grenada. However, U.S. citizens returning from Grenada must present a valid passport to re-enter the U.S. (for more information on U.S. re-entry requirements, visit travel.state.gov, the U.S. State Department’s website). Currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar. Visitors age 13 and over must pay a departure tax of about $20 (those ages 5 to 12 must pay a tax of about $10). Driving is on the left on Grenada. A local driving permit is required to drive; many car rental agencies issue them.
