Riviera Maya Vacations

If you take a vacation in Mexico’s Riviera Maya, you’ll find an abundance of cultural and natural attractions that make this delightful destination like no other. This scenic area on the Yucatan Peninsula’s Caribbean coast boasts fascinating remnants of the ancient Mayan culture as well as the second-largest barrier reef in the world.

Starting just south of the Cancun International Airport, the Riviera Maya stretches for some 75 miles down the coastline, from Puerto Morelos to Punta Allen. Many travelers book a Riviera Maya vacation package at a beachfront all-inclusive resort, which are abundant in the area, with many featuring world-class golf courses and spas. Snorkelers and divers flock to the Riviera Maya to see the spectacular sights of the Great Meso-American Barrier Reef, second only in size to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. The ancient sites of the Mayan people are another top draw. One of the best preserved Mayan cities is Tulum, situated right on the beach. A Riviera Maya vacation is also ideal for ecological pursuits, including a visit to the Sian Ka’an reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

U.S. visitors to Mexico must present a valid passport and fill out an immigration form. The immigration officer may also request that you demonstrate you have sufficient funds and a return ticket to the U.S. Currency is the Mexican Peso, although U.S. dollars are accepted most places. The average temperature in the Riviera Maya is 77°F to 79°F, and the rainy season is May through November.
