Rome Vacations

For fascinating historical sites, nothing beats a Rome vacation. The Italian capital and home to nearly 3 million inhabitants boasts so many famous attractions it’s challenging to see them all in one trip. Maybe it’s because so many travelers return to the Eternal City time and time again that “all roads lead to Rome”?

Comfortable shoes are a must during a Rome vacation as many top attractions are within walking distance of each other. Most visitors find they’ll stumble upon their most memorable moments in Rome while on foot, whether it’s discovering a street vendor selling a mouthwatering slice of authentic pizza or watching la dolce vita unfold before their eyes in one of the city’s many piazzas. The cradle of the Roman Empire, the city is home to ancient sites that are must-sees on any Rome travel itinerary, including the Colosseum, the Forum and the Pantheon. St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City, the capital of the Roman Catholic Church, attract the faithful from the world over, as well as those who wish to see in person their awe-inspiring beauty. Those embarking on a luxury Rome vacation will find exquisite five-star hotels in prime locations as well as many high-end boutiques selling fine Italian leather goods.

U.S. citizens traveling to Italy require a valid passport. A visa is not required for stays of up to 90 days. Rome’s airport, Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino), is connected to central Rome by direct train. Car rentals are available, but most visitors choose not to rent a car owing to the congestion in the city and the availability of public transportation. Average high temperatures range up to 86°F in August, while the average low temperature in January is 38°F. Currency is the Euro.
