Bienvenida
I visited Marbella in November 2008 for Travel Counsellors Annual Conference.
What a beautiful city on the Mediterranean Coast; this is a place that I must go back to again and take it all in. I really want to share it with my family because I know they will think it’s just as beautiful.
Marbella is in Costa del Sol located on over 99 miles of Mediterranean coast line
A bit of geography; Marbella is a city located in the province of Malaga the largest province in Spain
In the Andalucía region which is also the largest region in Spain
Malaga is the birth place of Pablo Picasso and is the home of his museum La Malaga de Picasso housed in the 16th Century Palace Buenavista
The drive from the Malaga airport to Marbella takes under an hour; it is such a scenic journey along the Mediterranean Coast.
Arriving at the 5 Star Hotel Puente Romano in Marbella – I was thrilled to see it was a low rise property on the beach front with white washed buildings and bougainvillea. Set back off the road you don’t see the little gem hidden behind the trees and plants
Puente Romano is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and it’s easy to see why. You are surrounded by gardens, fountains and the Costa del Sol Beach at your door step.
Puente Romano is Spanish for “Roman Bridge” and there truly is a Roman Bridge I crossed the bridge each day from the main reception building to where my room was located and at night it is lit up with white twinkle lights – very pretty.
If you want seclusion, privacy and peaceful surroundings you will find it here amongst the gardens and cobbled walkways.
An excursion to Mijas a 30-minute drive up the mountains is well worth your time. If you want truly spectacular views of Costa del Sol you must journey up to Mijas and see the views. On a clear sunny day you can see from Malaga to the Rock of Gibraltar. A walk through Mijas and it’s narrow cobblestoned streets you can visit numerous shops, café’s with outdoor seating and finish at the Wine Museum, sampling local wines and cheeses.
We also had the pleasure of visiting Olivia Valere a restaurant and disco in the hills of Marbella. This was quite the experience, you felt like you were entering a Moorish Castle the entrance is across a drawbridge that leads into stairs illuminated with candles and fountains all open to the night sky. Within Olivia Valere is Le Prive a Restaurant Lounge Bar and Babylonia Palace.
On another evening we enjoyed dinner at Villa Tiberio a 25 minute walk from the Puente Romano
I found the people in Marbella to be very friendly and welcoming along with a pride for there home of Marbella and the Andalucía Region.
I highly recommend a visit to Marbella and Costa del Sol visiting here will give you many wonderful memories.
Adios,
Gina
