It's Nice To Meet You

I'm Karen, and I would personally like to welcome you to my website.

Travel has always been a huge part of my life. I was lucky that from an early age my family and I travelled extensively around the world. That desire for travel has never left me and for over 30 years I have been tailoring holidays to suit my clients' specific needs. I have a huge number of clients that book with me time and again which I like to think reflects the standard of service and knowledge that I offer. I have travelled to the USA & Canada, Peru, Mexico, the Caribbean, Mauritius, The Maldives, Thailand, India, China, Singapore and Dubai. I have also been to Morocco and Egypt in North Africa and have visited many European Countries including Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus and Turkey.

I love tailor making holidays and have created many spectacular itineraries which include tours around the West Coast of USA such as Las Vegas with stays in the Grand Canyon and Yosemite National Park amongst others, the Canadian Rockies and the Pacific Coastal Highway from San Francisco down to LA. Cruise holidays also provide an excellent opportunity to visit many different countries whilst on one holiday. I can recommend the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and also Alaska for a cruise holiday. They offer breath-taking scenery and a good chance of spotting whales, dolphins, porpoises and more.

Whatever type of holiday - whether it’s a Villa, Family, Beach, Spa, Rail, Cruise, Safari, Cities, Weddings & Honeymoons, Tailor-made, Boating, Golf, Yachts, Private Islands, Adult only, Ski & Snow or a bespoke luxury trip you are looking for. As I have a wealth of experience and am part of such a large company I have some amazing contacts which can help me really wow my customers and I can guarantee to offer the highest possible level of personal service to ensure your booking experience is enjoyable.

My customers know that I completely understand the importance of their well earned break. It's their precious time away from the stresses and strains of everyday life and it's my job to make sure that they have an amazing holiday. What a great job to have! I absolutely love the travel business and take pride in going the extra mile for my customers to create the perfect itinerary to suit their needs exactly. It makes me very proud that so many of my loyal customers make it their business to recommend my service to their friends and family.

So whatever your holiday plans large or small…

Azamara - Three Night Weekend Getaway Voyage

22 December 2016

This was my second time on Azamara Club Cruises, I absolutely love them! They only have two ships, the Azamara Quest and the Azamara Journey, which are delightfully intimate ships ready to take you to some of the amazing destinations around the world. Being smaller ships (approximately 700 guests) their ships can take you to ports where larger ships won't fit, like in the heart of Marseille, Amalfi, and Crete, or even to the doorstep of Bangkok (while other large cruise lines dock a few hours away). My trip took me from Rome to St Tropez then on to the port of Santa Margherita for Portofino and then back to Rome where I stayed for another three nights exploring the city. My personal favourite stop was Portofino, what a stunningly beautiful place! I was lucky enough to have lunch on the terrace at the famous Belmond Hotel Splendido, taking in the stunning views of the port and all the yachts. On board the Azamara Journey itself, you’ll never feel crowded as there are lots of areas, bars and restaurants including two speciality restaurants: Prime C and Aqualina. The food is amazing and you can even sample the famous Chef’s Table meal of five-course menus paired with the sumptuous wines. There are also lounges, a casino and nightly entertainment at the ships Cabaret. Azamara operate on an all-inclusive programme and all suites include select standard spirits, international beers and wines, gratuities, bottled water, soft drinks, specialty coffees and teas, self-service laundry, shuttle service to and from port communities, where available concierge services for personal guidance and reservations as well as the AzAmazing Evenings. Each private, bespoke AzAmazing Evening event offers an opportunity to experience the best of local culture in a unique way. Best of all, one is complimentary on all except transatlantic crossings and voyages that are less than seven nights long. I was lucky enough to stay in a Club Spa Suite, such a treat! Check out the pictures! As you can see I can't recommend Azamara Club Cruises enough. For anyone who wants a luxury small intimate ship experience with fine dining and fabulous locations, Azamara is the one! Please feel free to contact me for more details.

A glimpse of St Lucia

15 October 2014

St Lucia is one of The Windward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean, famous for its lush rainforests, beautiful scenery, crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches and tropical cocktails. Only 32 miles long and 14 miles wide, so you can drive around the island easily on the mountain roads. There are lots of great places to stop to take photos and check out the amazing scenery! I stayed in 2 hotels, Cap Maison and East Winds Inn. Cap Maison is a wonderful luxury boutique hotel located on the Cliffside of the beautiful Smugglers Cove Beach in St. Lucia’s Cap Estate. It will most definitely be my preferred choice for my discerning clients. The staff here are brilliant and can’t do enough for you. If you are a foodie you will love it, both The Cliff at Cap and The Naked Fisherman restaurants have THE most amazing food! I would highly recommend doing a wine tasting session in the hotel’s very own wine cellar. Rooms are all great and the attention to detail is obvious. I’d recommend one of the ocean view villas. Cap Maison is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. It is in an idyllic location which is extremely private and sophisticated; it has its own charm, character and elegance! East Winds Inn – Fabulous quaint resort hotel situated on the beach, very laid back with amazing service from all the staff. It is an All Inclusive resort and the food is fantastic. They even have a weekly lobster BBQ! All the drinks and cocktails include well-known brands and around the pool area there is a self-service bar that even includes instructions to make your very own cocktails. Plus they serve Afternoon Tea each day. The island has many romantic retreats and also many family resort hotels. Whilst on the island I’d recommend a few 'must do's' – a trip to the top of the rainforest, you can take a gondola ride through the trees or for the adventurous the 9 wire zip lines 30m up across the rainforest and was truly fantastic! It is also worth a visit to the capital city of Castries on a Friday evening to experience the “Jump Up” which is the weekly St Lucian street party – once experienced, never forgotten. You can even charter your own boat and cruise along to see The Pitons from the sea or take a romantic boat trip from Rodney Bay. St. Lucia really is a beautiful place and is perfect for those who want a romantic experience, a relaxed experience or even an action packed lively experience.

Lovely Lanzarote

31 May 2015

I’ve been to Playa Blanca in Lanzarote many times over the years, most staying in some of the lovely private villas, however this time I wanted to treat my mum so we staying at the luxury 5* Princess Yaiza Suite Resort. What a fabulous hotel! It enjoys a privileged location halfway between the exquisite Marina Rubicón and Playa Blanca Old Town Brisa Marina. All the rooms are huge and the hotel has a main buffet restaurant along with several themed one’s all of the food is amazing and I particulary enjoyed having our breakfast at Isla de Lobos overlooking the sea. We had a spa treatment whilst we were there and the Thalasso and Spa Center has lots to offer in a stunning beach front location. There is something for everyone here, I recommend it loads as it’s suitable for families (kids love the Kikoland club), couples and all age groups. Playa Blanca has a great range of accommodation to suit all budgets, including self-catering in apartments or villas, or being looked after in a hotel, ranging from 3 to 5 Star. The resort itself has a great variety of restaurants, including tapas, Indian, Chinese, and Italian, so we didn’t go hungry. Many overlooked the sea too. Prices were reasonable, although they did vary from restaurant to restaurant, and most places did sangria, which went down well with me!

Beautiful Barbados

31 May 2015

My trip to Barbados was something else…utter paradise! As well as the acclaimed Bajan cuisine, lush vegetation and white sandy beaches and fantastic hotels it is the people and their Bajan charm and hospitality that make it a stunning island. I stayed half my time at the Sea Breeze hotel, a fabulous beachfront hotel great for couples and also families. The staff are super friendly and will arrange excursions for you. They even took us in a 4 x 4 tour of the island and the boot was stocked well with Bajan food goodies and plenty of rum punch. Don’t miss out on Oistin's Friday Night Fish Fry, a must do in Barbados. My second stay was at Ocean Two, a stunning boutique property. They have live entertainment most nights and Beach BBQ’s it is lively and very close to St Lawrence Gap. The beach here is stunning and whilst I was there it was turtle hatching season which was amazing to see… check out my pictures!

Amazing Abu Dhabi

31 May 2015

I visited Abu Dhabi on a reward trip hosted by the directors of Travel Counsellors to celebrate and congratulate its top performing ‘Gold’ Travel Counsellors. We were flown by award winning Etihad Airways and stayed at the 5* Fairmont Bab Al Bar which has a fabulous beachfront location with stunning views of the city or the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. The hotel is contemporary, with spacious rooms and suitable for both business and leisure clients. They have two specialty restaurants owned by Frankie Dettori and Marco Pierre White, serving Italian cuisine. Abu Dhabi has lots to offer, a visit to Yas Island where you can visit the F1 Circuit and Ferrari World where you can ride on the world’s fastest rollercoaster plus the amazing Yas Waterworld is definitely worth a visit. One evening we spent at The Skylite Rooftop Lounge a truly stylish and cool location that’s sits on the top floor of the The Yas Viceroy Hotel. There is a resident DJ and it is the perfect place for indulging in after work cocktails, time with friends or a romantic date with a loved one. The Yas Viceroy is positioned in the middle of the F1 Circuit and so it is a dream location for enthusiasts, whilst also having the luxury internal surroundings for those that enjoy the high life. Our final evening we were spoilt rotten with an exclusive night at the Saadiyat Beach Club nestled away on the island of Saadiyat. The Club has restaurants, spa, pool, bar, lounge, gym and more in natural surroundings, it’s fabulous! Overall Abu Dhabi is a great alternative to Dubai with great beaches where you can spend days sailing on the Gulf deep sea fishing or head to the horse racing or camel racing, plus lots of fantastic duty-free retail shopping!

Magical Marrakech

02 June 2015

The Kingdom of Morocco is only a 3-hour flight away from the UK and offers an exotic magical location for a variety of holidays. Whether you are interested in history and archaeology, want to experience some new water sports, test your bargaining skills in the souks or just “hang out” at the poolside, Morocco has it all. I spent a long weekend in the colourful bustling city of Marrakech where you see a fascinating mix of modern and traditional lifestyles. I stayed in the traditional Riad ‘Darhani’ – in the heart of the Medina. A very special little place and although it has only four bedrooms it has three sitting rooms and an amazing tented terrace, as well as a dining room. There is also a beautiful courtyard and a plunge pool inside. Only 15 minutes walk away, through the busy alleyways is the famous Jemma el Fna Square. During the day, you will be fascinated by the snake charmers, story tellers, musicians and the street food. Friendly stallholders offer a wide variety of local delicacies including fresh orange juice, goat heads and hot, tasty snails. It is probably safer to eat in one of the restaurants such as the Café Agrana on the edge of the square where you will be tempted with delicious, freshly cooked local food. A Pastilla – sweet or savoury – is a chicken or pigeon pie which melts in your mouth, and the Kefta tagine is definitely worth a try (ground beef and egg). There are souks throughout the city selling a number of products: hand-crafted lanterns, local spices, and the nutty argan oil, produced only in Morocco. Plus much more! The inquisitive will discover delightful mosques, Kasbahs, historical tombs and palaces. One secret delight I found is Le Bain Bleu – a traditional Hamman or ancestral ritual bath. Exfoliation, massage, cleansing and relaxing treatments using natural scented products are available in a peaceful atmosphere and at very reasonable prices. At night, the music in the city becomes louder and more exhilarating and you can wander into the new town to enjoy the sophisticated bars and nightclubs. Some of the hotels serve beer and wine in public bars and there is even an “English pub” in the Hotel Nassil which serves a decent pint of Moroccan lager. If Marrakech becomes too hectic, a stay in the High Atlas Mountains is the perfect alternative or 2 stop. Lush green valley’s sprawl between the snow-capped peaks and it is hard to believe they lie only an hour from Marrakech. The local Berber people live a simple rural life in this tranquil location, unchanged for generations. Accommodation on offer ranges from rustic retreats to the magnificent Kasbah Tamadot which belongs to Sir Richard Branson. An hour and a half in the other direction lies the long sweeping sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast. If you have the time, I recommend you stay a couple of nights in Essaouira – the “windy city”. This charming town sits on the flat open shoreline like a mini Marrakech. It is a lovely spot to relax and very popular with wind and kite surfers as the constant sea breeze makes conditions perfect for these activities. Again, there is a mix of accommodation to choose from: charming little Riads in Essaouira, Villas with pools in nearby Sidi Kaouki and opulent hotels in Oualidia and Agadir. Marrakech is a magical city!

PERUVIAN SECRETS

01 January 2011

South America is a truly amazing place to visit, so when I got the chance to visit Peru I was over the moon. My trip started in Lima, the capital city of Peru, cosmopolitan and vibrant with a beautiful and historical center that boasts exquisite buildings dating back to colonial times. I stayed at the Miraflores Park, an orient express hotel, which enjoys a privileged location overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The city boasts a wide range of national and international restaurants and bars widely regarded as some of the best in South America. Next was the stunning Lake Titicaca, the highest lake in the world, and visit to the floating islands of Uros where the inhabitants still live as they did centuries ago, on floating islands they make with totora reeds. Finally a trip down the Amazon on a luxury river cruise with Aqua Expeditions, exploring the highlights of the Amazon Jungle and its wildlife. I know you will fall in love with Peru, its people and its cultures, just like I have. You can sample a “Pisco Sour" - a typical aperitif made from a grape brandy, lemon juice, egg white and syrup, it’s a very strong alcoholic local drink. Try the traditional dish of “Cebiche" - raw fish marinated in lemon juice... but fantastically delicious!

JAMAICA JAMMIN

07 January 2011

I was lucky enough to be invited to Jamaica by the tourist board, Visit Jamaica, whose motto is ‘Once You Go You Know’. So very true! Not only is Jamaica a beautiful destination with wonderful palm lined beaches with white sands and stunning turquoise seas, but there are many marvellous tours and excursions too. I stayed at Sandals Montego Bay and also Half Moon as well as visiting many other hotels. I climbed the beautiful cascading waterfalls of Dunn's River Falls. A truly outstanding treasure offering 600 feet of climbing pleasure for thousands of visitors and locals every year, it is arguably Jamaica's most popular and famous attraction. We also swam with 2 of the resident Dolphins at Dolphin Cove, a dance, a dorsal pull or a foot push and even enjoy a kiss with them. An experience I will never forget and one I will certainly recommend to my clients. A visit to the 1770 Rose Hall Great House is also a must, the legend surrounding Rose Hall and its infamous owner, Annie Palmer, also known as "The White Witch of Rose Hall," is one that has fascinated generations of island natives and visitors alike. There’s so much character and diversity to Jamaica that I’ll guarantee you will have a wonderful holiday!

My customer stories

Karen organised an excellent trip for us in 2019, when we spent 3 weeks in Vietnam and Cambodia. Consequently we had no hesitation in organising our 2020 Japanese visit through Travel Counsellors. Of course, Covid came along, so it soon became apparent that we wouldn't be venturing forth on May 8th. After fending off the offer of vouchers for 2021 we suspected a full refund would soon be forthcoming. However, the Japanese holiday provider had other ideas. After only offering a 70% refund which we received within 14 days, we had to write a couple of letters addressed to the supplier, which Karen forwarded. After a negative response we were just about to consider our next move when Karen rang us to say she had pleaded our case for a full refund. Therefore we can't thank Karen enough for her excellent efforts throughout. When we eventually feel safe enough to travel abroad again, we know who we will be contacting.

Nothing is too much trouble for Karen. We are constantly changing our mind and I know we can be quite challenging to find something that suits our family. However, Karen has got to know us so well throughout the years that I have full confidence in her and her judgement and her excellent service that she as always will find us a holiday of a lifetime. We fully recommend her and hope that you are lucky enough to use her to plan your next getaway.

Karen is simply brilliant. Professional, knowledgeable and friendly. She delivers exactly what she promises and then goes beyond any expectations. Thank you Karen.

Sent by Maureen Cross

Nothings too much trouble for Karen. Its all very well when people book through the internet but they cant really be sure what they are getting. I would never consider booking directly when I have the services of Karen to ensure the best holiday at the best price and to sort all the little extras which make a holiday special and memorable. Additionally she's efficient, she listens and she debates to ensure she delivers exactly what you want. and I would not even consider booking through anybody else.

Sent by Colin Johnson

I have enjoyed working with Karen on my travel plans for my major holiday during 2015. Karen takes the time to get to know her clients - which is important if you are trusting your family holiday to somebody. She takes a personal interest so you are assured that what you need can be provided. Her forward thinking and experience have eased the stresses of endless web searching to find the ideal flights and hotel package. This is important to me as it has freed up my time. Karen will also be available for help arrange other bookings I may need during my stay. Her suggestions have already proved popular with my family. I look forward to working with Karen again in the future.

Sent by Judith Bradshaw

Karen is always very helpful and nothing is too much trouble in helping get the best holiday for us. Earlier this year we had to quickly return from holiday in Australia - Karen re-arranged our return flight immediately (on a Sunday too) and we were on our way back within 12 hours. We couldn't have wished for any better attention or service at a very difficult time.

Sent by Gary Spengler

We have used Karen's skills in designing holidays for us, for a number of years. Over this period I have realised there is an art to choosing the right destination and as importantly the correct flight (particularly flying long haul), so you arrive relaxed and fresh in the knowledge (because Karen bothers to take the time to get to know her clients), that you will be staying somewhere you haven't been, but feels like a home from home.

Sent by Kevin Cook

From the start of planning to the final day of the holiday Karen's prompt attention, delivery of top quality hotels, tours and guides meant we enjoyed a fantastic stay in Vietnam. I can't recommend Karen highly enough.

Sent by Helen Breakell

I have asked Karen to plan all our holdiays for the last few years, and she has organised trips including our honeymoon, short breaks, family holidays and cruises. Karen always gives us plenty of options to consider, and nothing is ever too much trouble. As she's got to know us, she anticipates what we will want, making booking easy. A great service!

I have used Karen Hogan for booking my holidays for years and would not consider using anyone else. Karen's service is second to none, the whole sourcing the right holiday, booking the holiday, payment and receiving documentation is seamless. Karen's knowledge and commitment to her job are evident through every stage of the process. The holidays themselves have been fabulous and cater for everything we have needed, and on the very few occasions where there has been an issue, Karen has sorted it without question or hesitation. I have on many occasions recommended Karen's services to family and friends, and would not hesitate to do this again in the future.

I was recommended Travel Counsellors and particularly Karen, by some friends. From the moment I contacted Karen she couldn't have been more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. In fact, I feel that she knows what we want out of a holiday more than we do, that's how well she understands us. All her recommendations have been first rate and exactly what we had wanted. I would have no hesitation in recommending Karen for all your holiday needs no matter how big or small.

Sent by Andrew Morris

Karen provides a top class quality service which is very personalised. Her knowledge and understanding of what we want has always delivered a superb holiday experience.

Sent by Terry Houghton

Helen and I would like to thank you for your help recently with our holiday to Mauritius and Reunion. Right from the start of the process when we had some vague ideas of what we wanted to do you have been really helpful, finding us some excellent hotels in some great locations and getting the balance right in terms of the different places we stayed. All the arrangements were excellent we were looked after at each location and during our transfers by great people in the locality, you even managed to get us a good deal on a random request for VIP tickets to the racing in Port Louis – a fabulous day out. Even when we were away and had a few problems out of your control with a flight that was changed and a car hire company trying to charge unreasonable extras you were there to resolve them – quickly and efficiently. Helen and I would not hesitate to recommend you to anyone travelling for business and pleasure, a great service that takes away the stress.

Sent by Patsy Crocker

Karen is our 'go to' person. What she can't answer (which is not very often) she will find out. She understands our needs and matches them superbly in a very quick and efficient manner. Nothing is too much trouble for her and importantly for us, we are safe in the knowledge that our holiday needs are completely taken care of, even down to Karen writing the luggage labels. A truly first class service with superior attention to detail. Whether you know your holiday destination, or need help and inspiration, rest assured that Karen will help and guide you, irrespective of your budget. You get the same first class service whether spending £1,000 or £10,000. We would not book our holidays through anywhere or anyone else!

Karen is always the first person that we contact when we intend making any type of booking. She is professional, knowledgeable, patient and courteous. I would have no hesitation recommending Karen or Travel Counsellors to my relatives or friends.

Karen Hogan, our personal Travel Counsellor deserves a top score of 10!! I am forever singing her praises about her efficiency and knowledge when asked to book a holiday for us. Sometimes Karen gets the most basic information from us to start searching for a holiday, and never disappoints. I think Karen knows our family better than I do when it comes to planning our holidays. Over the years we have booked mini breaks, hotel and villa holidays, one holiday involved lots of cities hotels, flights and train journeys, all within a week and of course Karen came up trumps it was a VERY well organised and delightful trip!! Our next holiday is at the end of Feb, The Northern lights (from my bucket list) Karen turned up at my front door with the wonderful package of tickets and itinerary (even down to the written out labels and liquids plastic bag, all the things you forget to do!!) Can't praise Karen enough and the Travel Counsellor Service for our many happy holidays.

Sent by David Farrell

I found Karen to be more than helpful and went beyond my expectations in helping to organise a surprise break for my partners Birthday. I have used Karen on many occasions to book holidays, and have recommended her on many occasions to friends, family and colleagues, and will continue to do so, as the service she gives is second to none. Karen's knowledge of places to visit, suitable to changing needs is fantastic. Every holiday we have been on when booked through Karen has been fantastic. Karen is always friendly and helpful and goes the extra mile for her clients.

I would highly recommend you to all my friends and family and will most certainly be using you in the future. Thanks so much once again xx

We had the most amazing trip to Israel. All the trips with guides were better than we expected. No problems arose but if they had I knew Karen was there to sort them out with just a short phone call. We had a perfect trip, I will always book through Karen.

Thanks for looking after our trip to Greece last month and our upcoming long weekend in Prague this September. Just passed your details on to family friend who wants a honeymoon holiday this October. Always easy and a pleasure to recommend you. Happy days!

I was recommended through a friend to contact Karen at Travel Counsellors when planning a holiday to Australia. I have to say I couldn't have been happier with the itinerary and package she was able to arrange for me. She organised everything from my visa right through to numerous internal flights and excellent hotels. She also managed to arrange the holiday a lot cheaper than I had initially attempted which was a bonus! I had a fantastic holiday and will definitely be using Travel Counsellors again when off on my travels!

Sent by Sheri Bankes

Karen Hogan is simply the best. I couldn't believe it when yet again I contacted her by email at what I consider "unsociable hours" (this time, Sunday evening on a Bank Holiday weekend), when a "travel crisis" had come up. I didn't expect to hear even from wonderful Karen till at least the Monday morning (the Monday, don't forget, being the Bank Holiday) but, to my astonishment, delight and relief, she emailed back within the hour and sorted things out, with patience and good humour and great efficiency. Really, what more could a person possibly ask for from a travel agent, or indeed from anyone at all.

Sent by Thomas Bradshaw

Karen, thanks as always for sorting us a great holiday at short notice.

Karen has done it again! After listening to a raft of options on our "wish-list" and then demonstrating great patience with a range of changes, she provided a great itinerary and travel arrangements, negotiating good rooms to meet specific criteria. We're looking forward to going. Thanks Karen!

Having not used Travel Counsellors before, I was a little unsure of what to expect. I had been looking at a self catering holiday and all the separate aspects of travel, car hire, accommodation, airport parking etc, but due to the pressures of family life, did not seem to be getting anywhere with finalising any bookings. That was when I phoned Karen and she took off all the pressure by booking the entire holiday for us. It was such a relief to hand everything over and such a joy to get confirmation that the holiday would finally be going ahead. Karen was friendly and approachable from the beginning, and the tickets etc arrived, all ready for travel - including luggage labels and liquids bag! I would definitely recommend, as an alternative to high street travel agents and online bookings.
