Wrapping up warm in New York

Sarah Graham on 17 February 2013
New York in February was always going to call for lots of layers, but this was cold on a whole new level. But it didn't spoil the fun!

This was a bit of an exploring trip to see some of the things I had not seen on previous trips and also to go and have a look around some hotels to keep up to date with the best places to recommend - as well as fitting in a little shopping and the obligatory trip to the top of the Empire State Building!

As ever, New York didn't disappoint. The shopping was as great as ever - and if you're planning a visit to Macy's, don't forget to pop into the visitor centre with your passport and they will give you a card that entitles you to 10% off most purchases!

This time we took a trip to the zoo in Central Park. I think I was expecting to see all the animals from Madagascar, but apparently that's a film and not real life! Whilst there were no lions and penguins, it was still a nice afternoon out! The Empire State Building was a good as ever - the winds at the top were bitter but the views as spectacular as ever.

We checked out some great hotels including the fabulous Yotel just off Times Square. It has a baggage robot which is worth a visit to see! Great rooms and really friendly staff too!

We spent a couple of nights at the Staybridge Suites near Times Square. This was a great room with a little kitchenette, free Wi-Fi and a wonderful free hot buffet breakfast. We then spent a couple of nights at One UN Plaza. The upgraded Tower rooms are amazing and the views from the rooms over Manhattan are something else! It also has a pool and you can see the Empire State Building as you swim! We also checked out most of the Times Square hotels including the W, Marriott Marquis and the Reanissance.

New York remains one of my most favourite places to go. If you are thinking of going and need any help or suggestions in where to stay, where to eat, drink, shop or visit...just drop me a line!
